The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program designed to help smaller communities with the benefits of economic immigration. This pilot program is also a pathway to Canadian permanent residence for skilled foreign workers willing to work and settle down in one of the participating communities listed below.

Aims of Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Rural and northern Immigration Pilot program is designed for the communities to assess prospective candidates who can be the best fit for the community’s economy and have a valid employment opportunity for their community requirements. Besides, the program facilitates newcomers with settlement services.

Process for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) Program

There are 4 steps to applying for permanent residence under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot –

  1. Eligibility check
    • Work Experience at least one year
    • Educational requirements – Canadian high school diploma or equivalent
    • Language requirements (CLB-4 to CLB-6)
    • Intending to live in the community
    • Settlement fund requirements (Proof of Fund)
    • Additional requirements established by the participating community
  2. An eligible job offered by an employer from any one of the participating communities
  3. Submission of application for recommendation to the community
  4. After receiving commendation from the community, application for permanent residence
